What is 'Academic Success Coaching?'

Our Academic Success Program is not subject-matter tutoring, but instead a form of academic mentoring.  We get to know the students we work with, to discover their academic strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes at school, grades in their classes, and organizational skills.  Working with the student, we devise a plan to improve their overall academic performance, and then meet with the student regularly to ensure that they stay on track.  When 'spot tutoring' is called for, we provide that; but Academic Success Coaching goes 'beyond tutoring' to engage every class the student is taking, and helping them stay on track with current assignments and their grade point average.  This is much more than just tutoring one subject.

What are the benefits of Academic Success Coaching?

1.  Personalized Learning.  Even in classrooms that are not overcrowded, not every student is able to receive personalized instruction from the teacher, and many students who need help go unattended.  Our Academic Success Coaching program is an excellent way to ensure that your student receives the attention they need.

2.  Mastery of the basics.  Often students who are struggling, are trying to grasp advanced concepts without first having mastered the basic content of the course.  Our Academic Success Program ensures that they first achieve mastery of the basics.

3.  Greater Academic Discipline.  Because of the emphasis on Educational Mindfulness which we employ at Wisdom Communications, we are able to go beyond a simple emphasis on 'discipline,' and transform willpower into self-awareness.  By learning to observe their own thoughts and feelings about school or a particular subject, students begin to understand and overcome the mental blocks and subject aversions that impede their learning.

4.  More learning in less time:  Teachers face an enormous challenge: writing lesson plans that accommodate a variety of learning styles.  Some students learn by listening, some by reading, others by "hands-on" activities, and still others through note-taking or even artwork.  There are many different learning styles, and all of them are found among the students in any given classroom.  While professional teachers employ "differentiation" and "scaffolding" in their lesson planning to try and present content in suitable ways for different learning styles, consistently delivering differentiated content remains an enormous challenge for most teachers.  However, our Academic Success Program allows us to focus entirely on one students learning style, and cater to that students needs.  This means more learning in less time.
